Getting someone into the house

On Home, tap the gear for Settings. Under People, tap Send a way in and you get six letters. The other person taps I've got six letters at their front door and types them in. The letters work once, within the hour; if they run out, ask for another.

If they're standing next to you, show them the square on your screen and they point their camera at it. With Coathook on their phone it opens straight into your house; without it, they get the six letters and a way to get the app.

Moving to a new phone

Tap I'm on a new phone at the front door. Somebody already in the house opens Settings, taps your name, then Send a way back in, and reads you the six letters. Your old phone stops reading the house the moment the new one is in.

A child's phone

A grown-up already in the house says yes on their own phone first, after reading exactly what the house will hold about the child. That yes can be taken back at any time, and taking it back signs the child's phone out straight away. The privacy policy has the whole of it.

Using a code

If somebody gave you a code for Coathook, you use it when you start your house.

1. Start your house as usual.
2. On the page that asks you to choose a plan, tap Have a code? under the button.
3. Type the code into the box your phone shows you, and confirm.

Your free months start straight away, and nobody else in the house needs the code. If you were sent a link instead, open it on your phone and the code is already filled in.

Already in a house that has stopped paying? The same Have a code? is on the page every phone opens to.

It put something in the wrong place

Every sentence you tell the house is kept with what it made. Tap Fix on the toast that appears after you speak and change the rows in place, or Undo to take it back. Nothing is filed without a read-back first.

The list didn't come up at the shop

Your phone needs to be allowed to nudge you for places. Settings on the phone, then Coathook, then Notifications and Location, where "While using" is enough: the app never reads your position, it only asks the phone to wake it at the ring you drew.

Ending the house

In Settings, under The house, tap End the house, then End it. Every phone stops reading it and nothing survives, so say so to the others first. To remove one person instead, a grown-up taps their name in Settings and chooses Let them go for good.

Privacy questions

The same address. What the house holds about anybody can be read and sent from inside the app, line by line, without writing to us at all; the privacy policy says where.
